Hi Mike, actually when I was bitten by the collector's bug it was precisely for a handsome chrono dial, the Moonwatch, and currently 'plain 3-hand watches' (as Chuck sometimes said if I remember well) don't appeal to me any longer...they may be nice but I wouldn't be wearing one enjoying it like I do for a nice chrono.
I started myself with a Speedy Moonwatch after literally years of yearning for it, and I admit that also for me it was more for the watch than for the chrono functions (actually, it was just for the watch!).
With the following ones however things have changed, and now I tend to do a lot of timings:
1. Driving part 1 - How long it takes going to the office and back, comparing different routes, periods of the year, day times etc.
2. Driving part 2 - How long it takes whenever I go to a specific place I am supposed to go back again sooner or later
3. Doing my housework on Saturday mornings, when I have to :-)
4. A lot of general tasks: reading an article I have to resume, queueing at the post office etc.
Probably the idea is: as I wear a chrono, why not use it when it can be useful?
