It's purely emotional as I'm sure we all realize.
In Response To: Why?!? Why?!? ........... ()

... as you say. Which is why I like my formidably accurate quartz de Ville Prestige so much and would not want it with an automatic movement.

We are humans and what is Right for you is not the same as what is Right for me! You like the best furniture, I like the most accurate watch!

You will gather that I disagree with your original premise...

: Actually, they wouldn't do what I want
: perfectly well. What I want is to have
: personal items that I can fall in love
: with... not just use. My heart could never
: belong to a G-Shock. Why? Because I like my
: time kept mechanically. It's purely
: emotional, as I'm sure we all realize. It
: seems to me that the level of technology in
: an object is inversely proportional to the
: level of fondness that a person can have for
: it. Example: Computers? No. Particle
: Accelerators? No. Vintage automobiles? Oh,
: Yes. Mechanical timepieces? You betcha! How
: many people who wear $2000 wristwatches
: (regardless of movement type) do so because
: they want to know the time? I would guess,
: none of us. We've pretty much established
: that a $20 radio-synchronized wristwatch
: outdoes everything else out there for
: accurate timekeeping. We buy them because we
: have a certain sense of style and
: personality... because we have good taste.
: Why drive a '67 Mustang, Camaro, or vintage
: Ferrari GTO, when a Honda Insight or Geo
: metro can out-do them all for all
: 'practical' purposes? Why purchase expertly
: mortised or dovetailed solid wood furniture,
: when veneers, plywood, particle-board, or
: even steel tubing will do the job just as
: well and for far cheaper?
