I don't think there's any need to ask in a coy manner or mention that you might buy grey-market -that just sets an adversarial tone. Just let them know that you are aware that authorized retailers generally discount 25 - 30 % on these watches. It's a well-known fact. A reasonable dealer knows that these are the prices for anyone who has researched the product and is not buying on impulse. If they give you an attitude in response to a polite request or don't come down at least 20 % off retail, go elsewhere. Another trick - buy out of state - have them size the watch and go home with it. They can mail you the box and papers as an out-of-state sale and you can avoid the sales tax. Many jewelers are willing to do this, especially for cash buyers.

FWIW, stick to an authorized retailer. Having the true Omega warranty is probably worth the few (if any) dollars you'll save, and many internet watch dealers are unreliable. They often don't have stock and have to search around for your wastch. Some have the serial numbers brushed off which hurts resale and warranty, some are returns, etc. Not worth the risk on a $1700 - 2000 purchase. A fine watch is an item to get right the first time so you can enjoy it without worry for many years.
