The seamonster logo is the Roman mythological creature 'hippocampus' and has been Omega's symbol for water-resistant watches since 1958.

In 1958 and 1959, Omega applied a chemically etched version of this logo on some of their watches. Starting in 1960, they went to an embossed version. The logo has been in use ever since.

It has appeared on more than just the Seamaster series. Many Speedmasters and a few other Omega models have had this logo applied to their casebacks.
