Hi
The real McCoy. The new old stock case makes this watch one of its kind.
If you had flown the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter between 1960 and 1987 for the German Air Force (Bundeswehr), you were given 1 of these. Helmut Sinn had the contract servicing them for the German Bundeswehr until they were decommissioned from service in 1985.
This watch stayed in Helmut's personal collection until I bought it from him in 2011. He had fitted it with an very rare unused new old stock correct Heuer Leonidas case. The case has never been worn and does not even have a hair line from strap changes. The watch also also been fitted with a correct new crystal, new stems and a new bezel. Due to not having been worn for long, it has had a full movement cleaning and lubrication at Lange USA (work done by Alkis at SWR in April 2014). Receipt from SWR Service, a letter from Helmut Sinn, a copy of the service manual in German and a brand new correct BUND strap with issue number are included.
The watch operates like a brand new watch, runs very precisely, winds smoothly, chrono works and flyback resets. The tritium on the dial has a nice deep creamy and even patina. It has full military markings. The case back is the only non new old stock part but also in excellent shape with no dings or dents. There is however a very faint hardly noticeable free hand engraving. Above the BUND stencil the engraving reads 8/5/81 and below the issue stencil it reads: Uli Muller. Undoubtedly one of the German F-104 pilots possibly entering service that day, we may never know. I asked SWR not polish the inscription out because I found that pretty cool.
The watch is in NYC for you to appreciate in person.
