FS: Rare Funky Vintage 1970s Vulcain 3-REGISTER Chronograph

Up for sale is this rare and unusual Vulcain 3-Register Chronograph in large stainless cushion-style screw back case. You can find 2-register Vulcain chronos from this era all day long but I have never seen another 3-register model like this one. I was not able to unscrew the back but dollars to donuts there is a Valjoux 7736 under the hood. This is a great opportunity to own a high quality and unique sporty chronograph from the 1970s in all original condition. Featuring a gorgeous Mint to Near Mint dial and hands and an unpolished oversized Rolex “Army”-style case, the watch is in Very Good all-original vintage condition overall.

The price for this cool vintage Vulcain chronograph is $850 USD. If you would like to have it serviced by my Master Watchmaker prior to shipping, just add $200 for a total of $1050 and a 6-month movement guarantee. My guy is one of the best and obviously you would be hard pressed to find a more reasonable service charge for a chrono, but I understand that collectors often have their own watchmakers. Either way, both options include fully insured shipping worldwide. Bank Wire/Money Order is always appreciated but Paypal is OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer) unless by eCheck or "Gift" options. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS.

CASE & BACK: Really unusual and cool all-stainless steel cushion shaped case in Very Good vintage condition with some wear and nicks from its 40 or so years of use but still sporting its original radial finish on the case top. This case is very reminiscent of the Rolex Army design with its triangular lugs but is much larger at 37mm wide x 42mm long x 12mm high to the top of the crystal. Stainless steel screw back with some tool marks on the outside and some scratches features the typical nomenclature of the era. As stated above, the back is screwed down too tightly for me to open it up and take pictures of the inside and will probably require a competent professional to do the job without gouging it.

DIAL & HANDS: Original and beautiful dial in Mint to Near Mint condition features funky silver square TV-style chronograph registers, and constant seconds, applied luminous filled markers and orange printed Telemeter scale. (The outer silver Tachymeter calibration ring sits within the crystal and is not a part of the dial actually.) The Near Mint caveat is due to small scuffs on the minute register--very hard to see and otherwise this beautiful dial is perfect and anything else you see is on the crystal. All hands are easily in Mint condition, including the super cool arrow-tipped minute counter and the luminous-tipped hour and minute hands.

MOVEMENT: As stated above, the watch is screwed to tightly for my hand wrench to open but the manual wind movement is running strongly over several days, keeping good time with all chrono functions working exactly as designed. I would bet good money that the movement inside this watch is the legendary Valjoux 7736, which makes sense to me because all of the Vulcain 2-registers of this era that I am aware of have the Valjoux 7733. I do not know the watch’s service but as stated above, you can chose to have my watchmaker service the watch upon purchase for a nominal fee and a 6-month guarantee for normal, non-abusive use.

CROWN & PUSHERS: The steel crown winds properly and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should and the top pusher starts & stops and the bottom pusher resets the chronograph as designed.

CRYSTAL: Original domed acrylic crystal shows its age with a variety of scratches and marks and a bit of gunk around the edges--merely Good condition, although not cracked or warped in any way and sitting firmly in the case.

BAND: This funky Vulcain chrono comes on a brand new black Maratec NATO strap. This great chronograph takes 20mm straps and has that weird 70s thing where the lug holes are so close to the case that you have to bend the spring bars into an arc to have enough room to fit the strap. ;)

I make absolutely NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch

This rare vintage Vulcain 3-register chronograph is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
