FS: ESA 9210 Tuning Fork Chronograph, Prototype / Sales Sample *PIC*

ESA 9210 Tuning Fork Chronograph, Prototype or Sales Sample
Accutron Licensed Movement

ESA 9210 Tuning Fork Chronograph, Prototype or Sales Sample, ca 1972. Excellent condition, serviced in November 2011 by one of the leading specialists in tuning fork watches worldwide.

This is the “generic” ESA version of the scarce Tuning Fork Chronograph made in Switzerland and sold by Omega (Speedsonic), Certina (C-Tronic), Derby (Derbysonic), Longines (Ultronic), and Baume and Mercier (Tronosonic). These “sample” watches were used by ESA Sales People to encourage the various makers to buy “into” this new chronograph. These Prototypes are very scarce (probably less than 10), and are all marked with “9210” as the Serial number on the caseback. I purchased this example from a reputable dealer in Germany that was aware of the history of these timepieces.

Watch was serviced in New York City in November, 2011. Excellent overall condition, blasted Stainless Steel finish is near perfect. There is one small blemish on the “bezel” area, at about 10 o’clock. Dial is MINT, lume markers are slightly aged but nice. Orange seconds hand not faded at all. Mineral crystal has some light scratches, but still usable. Watch measures 40 mm across dial, not including the crown. Good timekeeper, all functions work as they should, and chronograph registers all reset to zero. Day wheel is in French. Band is a modern Hadley-Roma that matches perfectly in finish.

This is a nice, scarce watch that would make a great addition to any Tuning Fork Watch collection, or a great watch to wear. E-mail with questions, or for more pics.
