FS: Vintage Rolex ref. 5513 Submariner "L" Serial--Gorgeous Dial

Up for sale is this stunning circa 1988 last generation "L" serial Rolex 5513 Submariner, one of the all-time classic Vintage Rolex divers in its final configurations. Last of the plastic Subs, this Rolex is easily in Excellent overall vintage condition and has a beautiful Near Mint original and unmolested gloss/White Gold surround Tritium dial that has aged to a really cool semi-matte finish. This great Sub also has super beefy lugs and comes on its original and very tight "M" coded 93150 Oyster bracelet with correct 580 ends. As the 5513 Submariner gets bumped back another iteration on the family tree by the new Ceramic Subs, this outstanding last series example is no doubt destined to become even more collectible, as seems to happen to all historical Rolex models as time passes.

The asking price for this outstanding example of last generation 5513 is $4950 USD including fully insured worldwide shipping. Bank Wire preferred on this transaction. Other payment options on application. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BACK: Extremely fat lugged case with thick, symmetrical crown guards appears to have been lightly polished in the past but still has very sharp edges. Polished sides have some light scratches from occasional use and there is just the hint of a ding to the outside of the lower right lug and the inside of the lower left lug. There is some minor corrosion to the underside of the case lip as can be seen in the movement picture. Model number & complete "L" serial number are quite clear between their respective lugs. Conservatively and by my strict standards, I rate the case as in Excellent cosmetic condition. The mirrored outer caseback has some scratches and small nicks and so is more like Very Good cosmetically--no personalized engraving. The inner caseback is free of any corrosion and is stamped "5512", which is quite common on these late 5513s as Rolex was using up the backs of that discontinued model.

DIAL & HANDS: Absolutely gorgeous gloss/WG surround T-25 dial with no crazing or "spider webbing" but rather a very even aging of the original gloss finish into a semi-gloss/semi-matte texture due to micro bubbles in the gloss finish. Very hard to capture with my camera but an absolutely stunning effect on the wrist. The original Tritium luminous has a very slight creamy, off-white patina with one or two small spots of minor but noticeable discoloration within the plots. Overall this gorgeous dial is easily in Near Mint original condition with no real surface flaws that I can detect--any visible marks are on the crystal only. Original Tritium hands are Excellent with some very subtle cracking of the luminous of the minute hand. They are perhaps one shade whiter than the dial lume, which is not uncommon. This is about as good as one of these early gloss/WG Submariner dials gets, IMO.

CROWN: Period correct Triplock crown with external O-ring is Near Mint and screws down tightly, winds properly & hack-sets the time smoothly.

CRYSTAL: Period correct low domed acrylic Tropic 19 is in Excellent condition with just a few small nicks which could easily be polished out, although bizarrely a couple of these are on the underside of the xtal.

BEZEL: Correct later generation bezel and deep black insert with Tritium pearl showing creamy patina. The bezel & insert are both Near Mint with only minor marks and the bezel rotates in both directions with normal finger pressure, albeit probably a little more loosely than it did in 1988.

MOVEMENT: Under the hood is the last generation of Rolex's workhorse non-Chronometer automatic cal. 1520 with 26-jewels and hacking function. Although I do not know its service history, it is running strong and keeping very good, Chronometer-like time with a strong power reserve. While I cannot guarantee that this great Rolex will not need service in future, I do guarantee it to be operating perfectly at the time of shipment.

BRACELET: As stated above, this great 5513 comes on its original 93150 Heavy Oyster bracelet with divers extension date coded "M9", which exactly matches the 1988 "L" serial according to our friends over at Oysterworld.de. This bracelet has 11 links and is extremely tight with the folded diver’s extension snapping tightly into place properly and has only the most minimal signs of wear. Easily Excellent to Near Mint condition with negligible stretch. Further, the endpieces are the correct 580s and not the service replacement 501Bs, making this 93150 quite valuable in its own right.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this or any other watch that I have opened nor have I ever had this watch tested. So please have this great Submariner tested for water resistance prior to any heavy aquatic use.

This great 100% genuine Vintage Rolex 5513 is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
