FS: Vintage 1950s Tissot NAVIGATOR World Time in Steel—BLOWOUT

Holiday BLOWOUT!

Up for sale is this rare first generation 1950s Tissot Navigator with rotating 24-hour World Time disc complication for telling the time in multiple zones. This is not the modern reissue but the original version, which features Tissot's in house caliber 28.5N-21T bumper automatic movement. This great vintage Tissot is in overall Excellent condition with an all steel 3-piece screwback case and original factory printed dial and world time disc. With its reference number of 4002-1 I infer that this is actually a true first generation iteration of this model. These are quite scarce in Stainless Steel, as many are gold plated while others are solid yellow gold (usually 14k). To put the cherry on top of the sundae, this rare Tissot has just had a complete movement overhaul for years more of enjoyment and it will come with a 6-month movement warranty for all normal, non-abusive use.

The asking price for this rare original Tissot Navigator is now SLASHED to an amazing $3050 USD OBRO including fully insured shipping worldwide. Bank Wire always preferred but Paypal OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer) unless by eCheck. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & CASEBACK: 36mm x 44mm x 12mm mirror-finish beefy-lug case (width including bezel but not crown) has just been lightly buffed and shows only minor marks for a nearly 60-year-old watch--easily Excellent vintage condition overall. Screw down caseback appears unpolished showing its original factory radial finish is and externally Near Mint with only a couple of very minor scratches. The inner caseback has all the original Tissot nomenclature for the era and the correct 4002-x reference (x usually signifies which generation/model year the watch is so I assume this is the very first year of production). The caseback screws down tightly and appears to have its original metal gasket in place.

BEZEL: Original polished fixed press-on 12-hour bezel is Very Good to Excellent with some marks from unskilled removal near the "6" edge. All black enamel paint for the even numerals and odd arrows is present. It is by using this bezel that one tells conventional 12-hour time on the face of the watch.

DIAL & HANDS: Outer fixed 24-hour ring with applied even numerals, odd arrowheads and original luminous quarter squares shows a lovely even golden patina. The finely printed inner rotating world time disc with representative cities of all the world's time zones makes a full rotation once every 24-hours. Both sections feature all their original print and there is only a nick to the outer ring above 0600 and some fading to the print of the cities. By my strict standards, I would say this complicated dial layout is in Excellent original condition. Original luminous filled polished steel sword hands are Near Mint as is the arrow-tipped sweep seconds. All in all, a pretty killer throwback look to this cool GMT watch.

CROWN & DISC PUSHER: Original notched and correct unsigned steel crown has some slight dulling from wear but is easily Excellent; it fits snugly against the case, winds and pulls out to the time-setting position exactly as designed. The small pusher at 0400 "hacks" the center disc exactly as designed so that a second timezone or home time can be set while the world time disc remains stopped. For example, if one wants to set current time and location, you rotate the city of your home timezone to midnight, push the disc pusher and then sync up the hour and minute hand to midnight also. Then you can tell what time it is worldwide based on the other cities' position on the 24-hour scale in relation to your home time. If you are traveling and want to set a second timezone, you push the disc pusher and then simply set local time. In this way, your home time remains constant against the 24-hour time while 12-hour time gives you the time at your current location. A pretty ingenious complication really!

CRYSTAL: Low domed acrylic crystal sits flush to the bezel and is Near Mint with only one or two very minor marks.

MOVEMENT: This early Navigator features a special in house Tissot cal. 28.5N-21T 17-jewel pink gilt-finished bumper automatic movement with shock protection, with the "N" in the caliber designating the synchronized 24-hour disc and pusher setting complication unique to the Navigator. As one would expect of a freshly serviced watch, it is keeping good time with all functions operating as they should and, most importantly, the 24-hour world time ring is perfectly synchronized with the conventional 12-hour hands, as well as stopping correctly when the pusher is depressed. This complicated Navigator comes with a 6-month movement guarantee for normal, non-abusive use.

BAND: This great Tissot comes on brand new DeBeer brown leather strap with a very realistic lizard grain. The lug width of this watch is 18mm.

I make absolutely NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch.

This great Vintage Tissot Navigator is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
