FS: 1950s Tissot Navigator

Up for sale is my stunning 1950s Tissot Navigator, a world timer watch and the original Tissot world timer.

The rarity of these first edition watches in stainless steel is extremely high. It took me over a year of searching to find this one and in the time I’ve owned it I haven’t seen a single other one offered for sale.

Dial/hands/bezel:
The original two-tone dial is insanely gorgeous and showing natural age from what I like to imagine were many trips around the world. The outer rim reflects a light golden hue and denotes the 24-hour scale along which you line up the inner disc, which makes a full rotation once every 24 hours. The inner disc is faded; all 24 cities are legible.

Hands are original. The bezel is original as well and remains fixed in place, assisting in daily 12-hour timekeeping in the primary time zone.

Timekeeping:
The service history of the watch is unknown, but it keeps near-perfect time. In my tests over the past three days, it’s gained 12, 18 and 9 seconds per day.

If you are unclear about how to tell time with this watch, please e-mail me for a full explanation (and see below for a brief one).

Case:
Terrific case that seems to be in unpolished condition. Unique, fat lugs. The watch is 36mm in diameter (not including the crown), but wears slightly bigger. Screw down caseback that has its original circular polishing in tact.

Crystal:
The low-profile plexi is free of any nicks or scratches, but may benefit from a light polishing. I’m happy to have my watchmaker do this before shipment, free of charge.

Crown/pusher:

Crown is stainless steel, unsigned, and I believe original to the watch. It winds and sets time smoothly.

The single, small pusher at 2:00 is used to “hack” the inner disc while you set the primary time. For instance, if you travel west two time zones, you’ll want to adjust the hands to read the appropriate time, but you won’t want to adjust the time in all of the time zones, so you’ll compress the small pusher to lock the inner disc and then proceed to change the primary time. Without compressing the pusher, the center disc will rotate as you set the primary time.

Both the crown and pusher work flawlessly.

Movement:

A Tissot 28.5N-21T movement (in-house) powers the Navigator. I have not opened the watch since I purchased it, but I do have a photograph of the movement taken by the previous owner’s watchmaker. If you’d like to see it, please e-mail me.

The movement looks correctly finished in pink gold/gilt.

Again, the service history of my watch is unknown, but it runs almost perfectly.

Band:
The Navigator will come on a brown Shell Cordovan Horween leather strap, as photographed.

This honest, gorgeous 1950s Tissot Navigator is priced at $3480. Free shipping within CONUS; I'll split international shipping at buyer's request.

Stainless steel Navigators are offered for sale very, very rarely. Don't miss out. Please e-mail me with any questions.

Thanks to Jeff/CT for this space.
