FS: Vintage 1970s Ernest Borel Sub 200T Sharkhunter Diver

Up for sale is this uncommon mid-size vintage Ernest Borel Sub 200T Sharkhunter diver with stunning eccentric Near Mint matte Tritium lume dial & original matching handset. This cool circa early 1970s dive watch is in Excellent original vintage condition overall. The story on this Sharkhunter, which is like a 37mm cross between a Submariner and Doxa's bigger, more famous model, is that at this time Synchron owned Doxa & Borel (as well as Cyma, I believe) and had no compunction about using a virtually identical dial and model nomenclature across two ostensibly separate brands. This well-made, rugged tool watch features the ever reliable ETA cal. 2872 movement with quickset date and beautiful gilt finish. And putting the cherry on top of the sundae, this tough ETA movement has just been fully overhauled by my watchmaker for years more of faithful service. The watch will therefore come with a 6-month movement guarantee for all normal, non-abusive use.

The asking price for this fully serviced and super cool Borel Sharkunter is $875 USD including fully insured expedited worldwide shipping. Bank Wire always preferred but Paypal is OK on this watch with split fees. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BACK: Very robust 37mm wide across the bezel x 46mm long x 12mm thick case with tapered crown guards in overall Excellent vintage condition with some scratches and marks from use but showing no evident previous polishing. This case is described as "mid-size" only in the context of 40mm+ divers and in fact is larger than a comparable Tudor mid-size Sub or a vintage Blancpain Aqua Lung. The outer back is in likewise Excellent condition with some minor tool marks but clear Ernest Borel logo in its center flanked by reference numbers above & below. The inner back is corrosion free and stamped/marked appropriately for an all-steel watch of this period.

DIAL & HANDS: Absolutely Near Mint factory printed matte black dial with a wonderful greenish patina to the original Tririum lume within the ecentric, red-outlined diamond and dot markers. Outlined date window at "3." Matching white tritium-filled hands are Near Mint, showing very little age. Very crisp dial with a very cool 70s layout!

MOVEMENT: Non-hacking, quickset 17-jewel ETA automatic cal. 2872 with shock protection and handsome gilt finish has just been serviced and so is running strong with a good power reserve, keeping good time and all functions operate as they should, including the quick date change. Being fully overhauled by my watchmaker, the movement is now guaranteed for 6 months of normal, non-abusive use and is good to go for many more years after that.

BEZEL: Original chunky serrated bi-directional diver's bezel featuring a nicely aged matte elapsed time bezel insert with luminous triangle at "12" intact. The bezel is Near Mint and rotates as it should in both directions with firm finger pressure and the insert is Excellent+ with one hard-to-see scuff between "40" and "35."

CROWN: Borel-signed screw down crown screws down tightly, winds properly and pulls out to the quickset date and hacking time-set position as it should.

CRYSTAL: Subtly domed acrylic Cyclope-style crystal with date magnifying bubble in Excellent condition showing some minor older marks from use but nothing major.

BAND: This Sub comes on a nearly new black NATO strap with polished steel hardware. This great vintage diver has a lug width of 18mm.

As a matter of policy I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this or any other watch, especially having opened it up to take pictures of the interior. If you plan to use this Sharkhunter as a diver please have it tested for water resistance.

This great Vintage Ernest Borel Sharkhunter is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
