Counterfeit Watchers Discussion Forum

A forum for identifying and avoiding wholly or partially non-authentic wristwatches -- including counterfeit, replica, Frankenwatches and other fake or bastardized pieces. Our objective here is to DISCOURAGE the sales and purchase of counterfeit wristwatch and jewelry products. It is also for helping people identify watches that are mostly authentic, but have been: altered for personal customization, repaired with inappropriate parts or modified to be passed off as more valuable pieces.

Including a photo of the piece you are talking about ALWAYS helps! You can learn how to post a photo here: How To Include Photos In Your Postings. 'For sale' postings, commercial solicitation and ads are not allowed. Links to Internet auctions are acceptable only if their purpose is to question the authenticity of a product or provide new clues for identifying counterfeit products. Links that appear to be 'shills' promoting the sale of counterfeit products will be deleted. Links to websites of sellers of counterfeit items are not permitted -- we know they are out there and do not need to be encouraging them by sending traffic to their sites. Privacy, additional policies and administrivia are covered in the Terms of Use.

Ebay safe?

Hi all,

I, like all of us here I guess, love watches. What with the recent stock market downturn I have decided to investigate investment watches and in the course of doing so decided to set up my own little website portal as I couldn't find anything similar at the time. Problem I have is that my portal primarily shows ebay listings, and whilst if you buy a rolex for £200 you know it is a fake or 'replica', there is a huge risk if you are spending the correct amount for an original only to find out you have bought a fake.

My question therefore is, are most ebay sellers reputable in your experience? I do not want to continue to link to crooks and villains so will pull my site if it turns out these listings are mostly fake. Also, is there a particular problem with a certain make? My site lists all the top makes like Franck Muller, Chopard, Roger Dubuis etc, as well as all te classics like Rolex, Breitling and Omega so I am happy to remove one or two makes from my menu.

What I don't want to do is allow fellow enthusiasts to be duped.

Thanks for any input!

Mark

PS my site is http://www.collector-watches.info if you want to see which watches in particular are being listed, although obviously this changes all the time
