I'm not an expert but...

: Hi all, this is my first post on your forum. I've been collecting
: watches for around 5 years now and am the proud owner of three
: Tag Heuers (a Carrera auto, Monaco, & 1000 Professional)
: and, now, my first Heuer (below). I would greatly appreciate
: your feedback and/or assistance!

: ------------------------------------------------

: I recently came across this Heuer Carrera 12 while I was on
: vacation in the Bahamas. Now, I've always had a soft spot for
: Heuer watches, but have never quite been able to afford one
: before. Thing is, I'd absolutely love to restore it, but as you
: can see the watch is in very poor condition.

: Among the issues I can find:

: -Missing parts (including the sweep-hand, case back, & parts of
: the Valjoux 72 movement.)
: -Discolored dial & inner ring.
: -Heavy wear-and-tear throughout.

: I've looked around a bit at spare parts, but they're quite hard to
: find and also quite expensive. I figured I'd essentially be just
: buying another watch to rebuild this one (which doesn't seem
: like it's worth it).

: My question for you is this: If this watch were yours, would you
: try and restore it--no matter the cost--or would you just admit
: defeat and re-sell it knowing that it is probably nothing more
: than a parts watch now?

: Thank you much!

:

... I would say, sell it for parts!

Your Carrera needs much work, the case should be replaced or redone plus the issue with the Valjoux 72 could become a nightmare. As you said parts are hard to find and yes, can be very expensive.

I'm sure there are better experts than me to advice you here but from what I know this model isn't one that makes Heurerists crazy due to the gold plated case.

In any case welcome in this Forum and hope you'll once find a lovely Heuer that will give you the joy you're looking for ;)

All the very best,
Sandra
