What Do We Want from TAG Heuer?

With the newest "El Primero" powered Carrera now in stores, I thought that it might be interesting to ask a question that comes up every now and then -- "What would we want to see from TAG Heuer?"

Let's be realistic, in terms of the available movements . . . we have the Cal 36 (El Primero), the Cal 1887 (since 2010) and then there are the "standard" movements that have been powering most of the modern models. Of course, we also hear rumors of the Cal 1888, so we will have to see what that's all about.

What basic look do you want -- racing? pilot? dive watch? Bright and shiny or blacked out? What size? What color palette? What might you be willing to pay? Let's also keep in mind that TAG Heuer is producing watches for today's markets and customers, who may have different taste / preferences from the old-time vintage guys.

A couple of other points:

  • If TAG Heuer is using the Calibre 36 movement, then it is either going to be a relatively small watch or have the registers somewhat close to the center. This is what happens when we see a small movement in a large case.
  • With the Cal 1887 movement, then we will have the registers at 12-9-6, rather than the traditional tri-compax or bi-compax.

So you are head of the design department at TAG Heuer . . . Please tell us what you will be making!!

Jeff
