A True Carrera or Only Part of the "Extended Family"?

Here is an interesting posting from David, on Calibre11.com, in which he refers to the Carrera 12 Dato as a member of the "Extended Family" of Carreras, rather than a true Carrera --

Of course, in its catalogs, Heuer referred to the Reference 2547 as a "Carrera 12 Dato" (as shown below). Perhaps we see this as early evidence that Heuer knew the power of the "Carrera" name, in selling watches.
