Interesting view. I must confess I do not have very much experience in the Rolex field. But I do make a bid sometimes on Zenith, Seiko, Jaeger,...may be a few other brands as well...
I tend to agree with your experience/view. The only thing I could think about is that a lot of people are "frustrated" by auctions that are ended prior to planned end of auction. By making a strong bid early in the auction it could prevent the seller form ending the auction early...maybe??
Just my thought/explanation...
