I agree.. it is serious buyers wanting to show the seller that they should let the auction run - but with a caveat..
That being.. there are some that know their 'stuff', and can confidently out bid others, but this does come with a risk.. but those of us who 'take the risk' can prevail, usually at a watch at a lower than market value price.
ie.. say Jeff takes the risk on a high price Heuer.. wins at, say $5k.. (OTD regular market value $6k) and it turns out that the watch is actually all OK, all original - win.
If Jeff decides to sell an identical watch at $6k.. I, and other would buy with confidence.. but we would be reticent to punt the $5k on an unknown seller on ebay. The higher the price, the greater the risk.. but some of us will take the punt.
This will make you LOL.. I bought a diver once from German ebay - I got it at a great price, and it was NOS.. couldn't believe my luck. The German translation stated 'mint/nos case'.. when it arrived.. it was indeed a NOS case.. but just that - a case, no movement!!!! Doh. Even I had to laugh at that one!
