Hi Erik. My 844.5758 (Monnin first execution) has an unsigned crown and is original. It seems this is common throughout the range.
There are a lot of 844 experts/fans on the forum, in particular Stewart Morley who does the excellent Heuerville blog. Here's a link to his 844/3 showing an unsigned crown.
