Folks, I am here to tell you that there is a lot of money in the world right now . . . literally.
And someone just spent $90 million of that money on a Hockney painting -- https://www.yahoo.com/news/hockney-sells-90mn-sets-living-artist-record-012223549.html
The hammer price was $80 million; with the buyer's premium, the final price to $90,312,500. That's a record for a painting by a living artist.
Let's give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume that they had not touched up or otherwise tampered with the painting.
