This was not my first Heuer, but it was the first that I won on ebay. I was new to ebay then (late 1998); it was the second item that I bid on; with one minute remaining, it was sitting at around $300, and it seemed too good to be true. Well, of course, that price was too good to be true. In the final 30 seconds there were three or four bids, and when the dust settled, I had won it, in the $650 range.

It came with the little yellow box, the instructions and all the hardware, and appeared to have been untouched. Seller [Dave price] was a really nice guy, and he was also pleased, having purchased it at a garage sale the previous weekend, for $3.00 [that's right, three dollars]. We both agreed that this ebay seemed like a pretty good thing.

My early days of collecting Heuers coincided with the early days of ebay, and it was a great way to build a collection.
