No "Silverstone" on the dial /Issue on catalogue reliability

Hi DC, Alex, David D and everybody else, I think David D has touched a broader point here: reliability of catalogues. Heuer 1983 one seems to have been quite unfortunate...

We have seen many times the so-called "Non-XXX", where you can read for XXX: Pasadena, Montreal, Silverstone, Cortina and others of the better known late '70's- early '80's models. This basically are the same as their 'named' counterparts but lack the name on the dial and usually have a different reference number as well. This is probably not the case here however, even though the watch does lack the "Silverstone" moniker on the dial.

In fact this specific 1983 catalogue has proven to be quite faulty in other instances: for items I know better than the Silverstone, I have often wondered at the page 83-B3, where we can find:

1. No tachymetre ring on either Carreras (510.511 and 510.523) or Cortina (510.513)
2. Wrong waterproof depth for the Carreras, stated at 100m whereas it's 33m only.
3. No "Cortina" name on the dial of ref. 510.513 but the right reference model, both facts just like the Silverstone BTW

and a Jubilee-style bracelet on the 510.523 which, as Chuck explained perfectly on his article on Carreras, is at least uncommon.
All the same but waterproof wrong depth applies for the 1985 French catalogue BTW.

All of this IMO also affects the authority of the 1983 (& 1985) catalogue as for the Silverstone strap. My conjecture is that as with most models of that period:
- catalogues were not that reliable
- models were available with different bracelets and / or straps.

Situation improved later anyway, as for 1985 catalogue had all the information and the image correct for the Carrera 510.511. But no info on the Silverstone on that one, alas...

Cheers.

Fabrizio
