The usual response is that, in this market, gold watches trade at a discount to steel ones, as the preference is generally for tool watches to be in steel.

However, I know from personal experience and from watching the market for some time before taking the plunge, that the gold Carrera after yours, the 1158, is only available for a considerable premium over the steel 1153.

These are rare (150 made in total) and also have strong links to motorsport and Ferrari in particular, which may help to inflate both demand and the price, but the earlier solid gold Carreras (model reference 2456) are rare too. Most have a silver/white dial with no tachymeter, but if it has a red tachy scale, then it is much rarer again.

In terms of value, any photos of the watch you can provide will definitely be of help. Plus, I'm also interested in the hands on the watch as we have seen two distinct types of hand on this watch while researching our Carrera table for the website and we have various theories around them that an unmolested example could help prove or disprove!
