I might be stating the obvious but...

in my own experience I believe these scammers mostly just do internet searches for "WTB" in posts, then respond as they did stated here. I think probably just avoiding that acronym and stating your search for an item in a less-obvious and less-easily Googled way will cut down on the scamming attempts. I know I'll be more creative with that part of my posts in the future, based on some recent emails I've gotten from WTB posts.
