I'll vote for a vintage Carrera. There's just something about the design and quality of the workmanship that looks and feels better than the modern ones. There are some nice looking Carreras in the modern line-up, but I still prefer the manual wind Carreras from the 1960's.

My real favorites are the manual-wind Autavias from the 1960's. They always sold for more than the Carreras, when new, and offered the rotating bezel (which is very useful for timekeeping). In my view, the legibility is better and the overall feel is better (more solid). My guess is that the Carreras have increased more in value (compared with the Autavias), in part due to the "mystique" coming from the Porsche Carrera name. The re-issue of the Carreras may have also helped the values / collectibility.
