Yes, I'm used to "die Uhr" and "die HAU" etc and don't really think about it, but seeing the Monaco referred to as a "Spielgefährtin" amused me :) I wonder why they ended up feminine given the neuter gender was available. To confuse the issue, in English we refer to "eine Standuhr" as a "grandfather clock" :) Gender confusion in the horological world!
