Re: Racers and their Autavias
In Response To: Re: Racers and their Autavias ()

Hi,

thanks for the information. I'm usually not that into motorsports like some others are, but it's just fascinating that the heuers were really necessary tools for the drivers and not just an amazing collectable like today...

Cheers,
Manuel

: Hi Manuel.

: Yep, I haven't heard of any direct connection between Heuer and
: Hill but that BBC documentary had a lot of shots of him wearing
: an Autavia.

: We know Jo Siffert was dealing the Heuers too, and he and Hill had
: a connection through Lotus albeit Hill racing for the works Gold
: Leaf Lotus team and Smokin' Jo for Rob Walker so it's not
: impossible that Hill got his Autavias through Siffert.

: I say Autavias because I vaguely recall the documentary showing him
: with Autavias pre-1969 and that 1163 too, so I reckon it's more
: than one but I'd need to watch the documentary again to be sure.

: I need to trawl through the old Autocourses at some point to see
: who's wearing what in those photos.
