Off-Topic: Assessment of LeCoultre Chronograph

A friend is seeking advice regarding the 18 KG LeCoultre chronograph shown below, and I am a little out of my element. Any views here on the usual questions:

  • Is this one authentic?
  • Do all elements appear to be original to the watch -- dial, hands, pushers, case, movement, etc.?
  • Can anyone tell us the "story", in terms of year of production, scarcity, etc.?
  • Any specific "likes" and "dislikes"?
Coming at it from another angle, if you were looking for an 18 KG chronograph, with this sort of "look and feel", and had a budget in the $3,000 to $5,000 range, what would you consider? Maybe a Longines or Zenith? Seems unlikely to find an 18 KG Carrera in this price range.

Thanks in advance for any views regarding this watch.

Jeff
