Could it be a clever way to launder money for a 10% eBay fee? It seems incredible that certain things go for the prices they do (up to 10x the real value). To my eye, it's not just a watch phenomenon - so probably some kind of financial fraud and most likely cleaning up dodgy money with an 'asset' that doesn't exist or has a much lower value.
