Re: Heuer Autavia small mystery
In Response To: Heuer Autavia small mystery ()

Hi Wasyl,

i can't see much from the picture, but it seems that there is the stamp of a single triangle behind the lug at 5 o'clock.
This can tell us that the watch was originally equipped with a cal. 11 (that was quite common on Viceroys)

The marriage of case/dial/hands remains a mistery.

: Hello everyone,
: Although it is not my first Heuer, this is the first I have mixed
: emotions about and I need your advice and experience.
: So some time ago I got infected with Autavia virus and after first,
: classical 1163V, couple of days ago I spotted something with
: stranger dial and hands. After short scanning OTD I realized it
: is after chronomatic, pre Viceroy Autavia with wrong second hane
: and bezel that should be MH.
: After receiving a watch, I managed to remove tons of dirt and
: finally the bracelet. First I have seen serial number starting
: with 269xxx. Not good... second lug showed 1163V. not good, now
: I know why tachy bezel. Swapped dial I thought. But I opened the
: case and inside I saw nice and clean cal 11. One good news!
: The person I bought the watch from, had bought it ca 2003 in
: Germany and done nothing, neither with case nor with the
: movement. So my suspiction is that somwhere in time something
: happened to the original case or bezel (or both) and someone
: (question if Heuer/Tag Heuer or independent watchmaker) changed
: whole case to later 1163V complete case. Later on someone broke
: the crystal and damaged chrono hand. And now I wonder what to
: do? Do you think it makes sense to contact TH service if they
: could maybe confirm if they changed the case and when? Main
: question is if they were doing things like this?
: Should I look for a case with proper numbers and bezel (and first I
: guess hell would freeze...)
: I intend to keep the watch while it's even in this condition rarer
: than regular Viceroy, the shape of the case is proper, as cherry
: on the cake - it came with original BOR bracelet, which after
: cleaning I will be using.
: Any suggestions? similar experience?
: Enclosed find some photos of the patient.
