Watch Functions?

I just bought a new Tag Heuer Link automatic chronograph (CT5111.BA0550) watch today and was wondering why the crown only clicks in fully sometimes, and most other times it just bounces out. just so you know how far out it sits, its at the slot before the date adjust slot (if pulling the crown out).

and when it's in this slot, if i wind it upwards, it makes a sliding sound. and if i wind it downwards, it makes a clicking sound. can anyone advise me whats happening when i do this? and why it only clicks in fully sometimes?

any help will be greatly appreciated!

PS. I bought it in town from a jewellery store, should I have got an instruction manual with it?
