Auatavia 1163 MH with MH / Tachymeter Bezels

You might want to start with our blog posting, written by Mark Moss, covering the serial numbers and batches of Viceroy Autavias (and the other Reference 1163 MH Autavias -- http://thoughts.onthedash.com/thoughts/serial-numbers-of-viceroy-autavias/

I believe that anyone who ordered a Viceroy Autavia through the Viceroy promotion (for $88) would have received an Autavia with a Tachymeter bezel. But I suspect that Heuer was still selling identical looking Autavias through its retailers, so if someone walked into a dealer or ordered from a dealer, I suspect that they could have purchased the same watch, with either a Tachymeter bezel or an MH bezel.

I don't see any real difference in terms of the collectability of the ones with the T bezels versus the ones with the MH bezels. We sometimes see the "full sets" of the watch, box and papers, shown as being from Viceroy, Louisville, Kentucky, and these should have a Tachymeter bezel. But I am guessing that a full set with the MH bezel, from a normal Heuer dealer, would have about the same value.

So if I were you, I would get the one that is more appealing to your eye, in the best possible condition.

Thanks for your posting and we hope that you will become a regular here.

Jeff

: First post here. I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere but I
: having trouble narrowing the search function to a specific
: topic.
: (Almost) completely new to vintage Heuer, although I've read many
: of Mr Stein's articles and watched the videos.
: I see quite a few watches (ebay) advertising Viceroys with the
: 1163V case stamping, but with MH bezels.
: Did the true Viceroy only come with a Tachy bezel, and therefore
: the MH must be a replacement? I would like to find
: an original 1163MH (I like the MH functionality), but I see way
: more really nice Viceroys with MH bezels. Should I pass on these
: and hold out for an 1163MH from a collectibility standpoint? It
: will be a regular wearer. Thanks!
