Today's Big Story -- Speedy Tuesday 2 Limited Edition

As Mich mentions in his posting, today's big story in the vintage watch world is the announcement of the "Speedy Tuesday 2", a limited edition of 2012 watches that sold out in 1 hour; 53 minutes.

Here is the definitive posting on the subject, on Fratello Watches -- Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday 2 "Ultraman" -- Out Now. Fascinating to see the interplay between the brand, the community of collectors, and the media / bloggers. Two heritage Speedy Tuesday models, both tremendous successes. Of course, the whole "Speedy Tuesday" thing originated in the collectors community, and was then used by the brand.

Mich is correct that the vintage Heuer world seems a bit quiet / sad right now. We see Omega, Breitling and other brands leveraging their glorious heritages, and producing interesting new models based on the old ones. TAG Heuer declares that 2018 will be the "Year of the Carrera", and publishes a book about the Carreras (with over 60 pages about the Connected Watch), but through July 10, we haven't seen any Carreras with any historical connections to the brand, other than the 100 Blue Dreamers offered by The Rake / Revolution.

On the Autavia side of the heritage portfolio, we have the new versions from Calibre11 and Hodinkee. Still, this is a tiny portfolio, compared with what we are seeing from some of the other brands.

Let's hope for better things from TAG Heuer in the second half of 2018 and beyond!!

Jeff
