Sounds as if you have a really good watch there, Erik, with an excellent movement! Well done! It must be fun waiting for it to arrive ...

You could polish the caseback and the glass (crystal), but unless you are certain the watch has been serviced recently I think you should have it serviced before you do anything else. That way, it will have the oils renewed and any failed or failing parts replaced. You can discuss how much it should be polished with your watchmaker.

He'll probably advise you to let him fit a new crystal. He may ask if you want the dial re-done: that's always a problem - whether to have it re-done or to keep it as it is with a bit of its age showing! Very often it is better to leave it as it is.

It'll be interesting for us to hear from you again when the great day arrives and you have it in your trembling hand!
