If you can't get your current winder to work, you might want to try the Sharper Image winders. I bought some factory fefurbished ones on their ebay store for about half the cost of a new one. They wind in a pendulum type motion and automatically expand to the size of your watch bracelet/strap for a secure fit. They can also handle any weight watch, even my dad's Panerai.

They wind bi-directionally since the watch is swinging in a pendulum motion. The normal versions I have run on batteries only, but the deluxe models have AC adapters.
