Re: Decision - 3573.50 or 3552.59?
In Response To: Decision - 3573.50 or 3552.59? ()

: My day off work today was spent Omega shopping!
: What an awesome day!

: I've now narrowed it down to two speedies...the
: Speedmaster Professional with sapphire
: crystal (3573.50) and the Speedmaster Racing
: (3552.59).

: Can anyone post pics of the Racing version? I
: love the carbon fiber dial and the red
: touches, but I'm wondering if it's too
: 'dated'. I mean, the Professional is so
: classic. They're both beautiful and I don't
: think I'll go wrong with either but I need
: some advice!!! In a way I do like the fact
: that the Racing has a date window and is
: self-winding, but ???

: Thanks!

This is only my opinion, but if this is to be your first Omega and you want a timeless classic, I'd go with the Speedy Pro "sapphire sandwich". I really want that model myself. The Lemania movement in it is built like a tank and has a proven track record for reliability and durability. Plus, you can wear the watch with just about anything since it has such a classic look to it.

On the other hand, the Racing is much more "trendy", it costs more, and it has a movement in it that has been plagued with quality issues from day one. Caliber 3301 can hardly be described as "utterly reliable" the way caliber 1863 can. Plus, the Racing costs about $750 more.

The Speedy Pro sapphire sandwich is one of those watches that will never ever go out of style, is probably the best built Omega watch in their current catalog, and also makes a great conversation piece among people who know watches.

For me, the choice would be easy, but you have to decide which model really appeals most to YOUR eyes.

Good luck,
John
