Re: Omega rubber straps

: Maybe-- but, having worked in the industry
: for a number of years early in my career,
: I'd add that there's a lot more to it.
: "Processing windows" w/ all other
: things being equal can produce very
: different results - and costs to the
: manufacturer. Then you have material
: substitutions and finishing considerations.

: This isn't to say that "name brands"
: are always superior to "generics."
: But it pays to know the potential difference
: before making an informed choice.

For that matter, it might not even be the same material. There are a lot of silicone and other rubbers and elastomers out there, and if the whole magila cost only $50, I'll bet they skimped on every last part of the package, including the material for the strap.

Besides, it probably ISN'T the same mold, just something dimensionally close. If Omega were to find out a supplier was selling production from their mold and undercutting their own price, I assume they'd have lawyers knocking on their door immediately, along with a team to move the production somewhere else.

Of course, as you said, none of that necessarily means that the knock off is inferior to the OEM product.

Oh, my apologies; I haven't been able to visit for a while, but couldn't resist putting in my $0.02.
