Re: How do I authenticate an ebay watch?

: I'm presuming the serial no is positioned as in
: the FAQ ie on one of the lugs on watch.

: Is there a list somewhere where the SN can be
: checked or is the very presence good enough?

No simple lookup will tell you if a number is valid. Since no checksum is built in to validate a number on its own, any of millions of numbers match real watches. Has to be checked by Omega to be sure it MATCHES the watch you get.

But the presence of the serial number is pretty reliable--as long at it is in the right place and the right extremely tiny laser cut size on the SMP.

: Watch is apparently two months old and has 10
: months warranty left. Not sure whether this

Make sure this is the Omega International Warranty from an authorized dealer. If not, it would be a store-specific warranty from a gray market dealer that may not be transferrable to a subsequent buyer.

But you gotta wonder about someone buying a new watch and reselling it (at a big loss) two months later.
