Re: A QUESTION ABOUT DEALERS
In Response To: A QUESTION ABOUT DEALERS ()

The reason you can get a good deal from an auth. dealer "through" the internet is that the internet is just an information tool. Then you just call the auth. dealer. To me, the distinction between "internet" and "normal" sales will continue to be blurred as time goes by.

"So, were the online sellers authorized dealers who were bucking the system a bit by selling via the internet or what? I'm just curious."

I have yet to see a true "online" dealer that claims to be an auth. dealer. To me "internet commerce" is where you actually place the order, enter credit card numbers, hit the "purchase" button etc. on the internet.

What do you call it when you use the i-net for all sorts of info. gathering, and then just call a company that has a website, and "real people", to place the order?

It seems to me that the future of luxury goods retailing will include some sort of mix. I would not be surprised if, some day, you could buy an Omega completely on the web, from a well-known auth. dealer like Tourneau or BailyBanks&Biddle.

Just my ramblings,
MMC
