I had a case like that 10 years ago. Still nags.
Can you get identification data of the watch, like photo and serial number from the seller ? Maybe you can post them here with Jeff's agreement.
Maybe an idea- although I do not hope this will happen a lot-to open up a new section for these things? If only, to discourage evil minded persons.
