Carrera 45 dato

I've seen recently a Carrera 45 Dato, the "early version", black dial. The dial is not superb, but what slightly put me off is the fact that I've been told by the seller that there's not any other way to adjust the date apart from turning the crown on and on (for the whole 24 hours cycle) until you reach the correct date of the month. Now: is it true? I know that it is a manual watch, and that there are no button or pushers on the side for the date change, but it does not sound right. Shouldn't you pull the crown two clicks out and then do it much quicker? Anyone that has this watch could help me? Please forgive my ignorance by the way...
