Contest: What's in the Box? Here are the Clues

OK, here is everything you need, to figure out what's in the box, shown in the photo below:
  • Born sometime before 1958
  • Memorial Day 1966 -- made the field, but not the first lap
  • Better luck there in 1968, representing the City of Seattle
  • Retired from competition in 73, with 74 finishing 18th behind Redman, Donahue and Scheckter

To win the contest, you will need to answer the following three questions:
  1. What are the timepieces (make and model)?
  2. Who was the previous owner of the timepieces?
  3. Which driver was being timed in the “retirement” race and what make, model and and color was his car?

Two pounds of M&Ms -- plain or peanut -- to the first person to answer all three questions correctly. Post your requests for more clues, or maybe even the correct answers. In the days before Google, this would have been a tough contest. With Google, I don't know whether people will be able to figure this out in ten minutes (or maybe it will take ten days).

Good luck!!

Jeff
