Very nice and extremely rare box Rich. My personal thought is this box was designed at same time as the ChronoMatic Monaco...relatively small quantity before the racing flag was also printed on it.

It's perfectly logical that earlier watches also came in this type of box like the example of the 2446 GMT Autavia (when they were sold after the Monaco was introduced ofcourse). I can perfectly imagine that retailers didn't quite know which box belonged to a specific Heuer model and grabbed whatever what was available...or at buyers wishes.

Here's my PVD Monaco with a box like in Arno's book...however I don't think this box really belongs to the PVD Monaco as it's something too little to house the PVD monster like it should. But sure a very nice and also very rare box indeed ;-)
