Patina = Tone of Paint or Lume
In Response To: Please Define "Patina" ()

I haven't checked a dictionary yet, but in terms of the vintage watch world, I think of "patina" as the natural aging / color change of paint or lume. The lume shown on the two Monacos (below) has this "patina".

I have never thought of "patina" as describing nicks, scratches and wear on a case, but perhaps other use the term this way.

: It seems a simple question, but maybe not. When I read or hear the
: word "patina," I immediately think of dial and/or lume
: aging—usually I think of yellowed luminescent material.

: Does everyone think the same thing, or does "patina"
: include case wear and evidence of age?

: And what the heck is "wabi" anyway?
: :^)
