A serious suggestion...
Whenever I have issues with a backpack, I look up a Shoe Repair place in the YellowPages... I figure if they can sew leather boots and shoes back together, they can sew Nylon Backpacks. They probably also have ideas about leather watch straps.
Just a thought...
