Serial Numbers on Dashboard Timepieces

For most of the models of the dashboard timers, the serial numbers are on the cases, just above eleven o'clock (55 minutes) . . . as shown below.

They were sold on the back-plates, usually singles (square), sometimes doubles (rectangular); there were even back-plates for three or four of the timepieces (but these must have been special order pieces). The numbers on the back of the back-plates are some sort of reference number.
