I Like the "Fisher" Part of the Story

Thanks, Mark.

Aesthetically, the Fisher is probably a negative, for most people; same with the words "Automatic Chronograph", as someone mentioned yesterday, re Thomas's treasure . . . let's get some McQueen Monacos and start stripping these words off the bottoms!

Still, I like the "Fisher" in the sense that it shows us yet another sector in which Heuer was supplying timing equipment, in this instance, laboratory equipment. So we see purpose-built timepieces for everything from parachuting to sailing to boxing to filmmaking, and here is the co-branded "Fisher" chronograph for the scientist. It would be fun to try to find an old Fisher catalog, to see this Carrera shown among the beakers, test tubes and bunsen burners. I wonder how many walked out of the labs, "by mistake"?

You are right about the decoration inside the case-back . . . definitely a hand-done, one-off feel to it. Photos coming soon.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

: Great watch Jeff.

: I'll admit the "Fisher" addition to the dial spoils it
: for me a little - I'm firmly in the pure and unadulterated camp
: when it comes to adding anything to the dial, whether it be a
: retailer or some commemorative emblem, like the Indy or Volvo
: Carreras. There's not a lot of space for it on a Carrera 12
: either, so it ends up prominently placed above
: "Carrera" (and not quite centred above it, as Arno
: pointed out when we discussed this watch before). Points here go
: to Abercrombie & Fitch for putting their brand around the
: top of the 12-hour register on their branded Carrera 12s, which
: is a bit more subtle.

: Couple of interesting points inside too. All looks straight with
: the movement:

:

: but what happened with the "unadjusted" text? Looks like
: they just missed filling it with the gold paint!

:
:

: And the turning inside the caseback is unusual too. Most I've seen
: have a more or less circular effect built up with the individual
: circles:

:
:

: Whereas Jeff's new watch has them more in diagonal rows (borrowing
: the seller's eBay photos for this and the movement shot above,
: hope that's ok with them):

:

: I think these are probably hand-turned and what we're seeing here
: is someone's individual "style" in creating them, i.e.
: person X does concentric circles, whereas person Y likes to do
: them in lines. Pretty interesting really and only enhances the
: individuality of each watch too.

: So a great buy Jeff and for a decent price too, even with the late
: sniping, given the condition of the watch.
