Ford Split Lap Unit 77 -- 2,000 Produced / Survival Rate ? ?
In Response To: Re: yep ()

There were 2,000 of these Ford Split Lap Unit 77 chronographs produced.

I suspect that they suffer from a low survival rate, because of the LCD displays, etc. There is also the fact that these chronographs are not marked "Heuer", so the person who finds one of these in the sock drawer has no hint of the brand / value / history. Of course, if they look at the case-back, and Google what they see "Ford Split Lap Unit 77", they will find some information.

: I guess my point wasn't one of the prices that these- or other
: Heuers- collect in the market today, but more how unusual it is
: to see 4 of these watches on sale within a week of each other.
: How many have we seen over the last few years? To me its a sign
: to be cautious with bidding on any of these, as there just
: aren't that many around.

: Your point on prices however is certainly right in that I believe
: the main reason that the ford LCD has such a high value is its
: rarity. Four in one week says that they're not that rare. And
: yes, there is a bit of a myth about the number of Diver 100s. I
: believe we've seen at least 5 of these sold either here or on
: E-bay in the last 6-7 months. Rare yes, but not as rare as those
: who own them (like me!) would like you to think
