: Never thought of that. I thought the crown
: would click even when the watch is not wound
: at all since I know I picked up a SMP that
: completely stopped because the entire power
: reserve is used up and wound it and it still
: made the clicking sound. While we're on the
: subject of watchwinders, are the Sharper
: Image winders any good? I noticed they sell
: the Steinhausen winders now as well.

Actually, I was referring to the clicking noise of the watch's overwind protection mechanism. After you turn the crown 40-50 full revolutions, you'll hear this clicking noise from the overwind protection mechanism kicking in. That's what tells you the watch is fully wound.
As for the Sharper Image winders, I had some luck with them initially, but then they went bad. The pendulum started to swing too high and keep bumping the top. This made an annoying noise and had an adverse affect on my watch's timekeeping. Since I switched to the Steinhausens my Bond SMP has exhibited exceptional accuracy (less than 1 sec/day time gain).
