In Response To: Re: Problems with 2531.80 ()

Well, I had a feeling that this would result in some flames being tossed in various directions. I must admit that I did want opinions from both sides of the Omega camp. I figured that if enough people replied with thoughtful, and maybe even eloquent, criticisms of Omega, then maybe I should bite the bullet and get another watch. A watch that doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as the Seamaster.

Happily this was not the case. With the exception of one poster (it would be a stretch to describe his post as thoughtful or eloquent), the consensus appears to be that I was unlucky enough to land a defective piece, at a probability of one in thousands, if not tens of thousands.

That's good, because I really like the watch. The personal anecdotes of people living happily with their Seamasters (and other Omegas) for years, and subjecting the watches to varying levels of abuse, were helpful in convincing me that my gut reaction (to replace for an identical watch, posthaste) was correct. And so I will do this. Thanks for the advice to push my AD to replace rather than repair the watch.

As to any disappointment that I may feel as a consequence of my experience, forget about it. My knowledge of horology may be relatively meager, but I am aware of the complexity of automatic wristwatches. Stuff happens. My love of Italian motorcycles has not been diminished by my experiences with breakdowns in relatively new Ducatis. The difference is that I understand motorcycles a lot more than watches, and so I turned to this forum for some wisdom.

In the end, this is why Darwin caused warranties to evolve from the primordial soup.
