Re: When to service a movement?
In Response To: When to service a movement? ()

: Hi Georges,

: Your experience with vintage Omega and Rolex
: watches is remarkable! I'm amazed that the
: movements can maintain their accuracy with
: such long service intervals. It seems like
: the oil would dissipate and dry out, causing
: the parts to wear out. Rolex recommends
: servicing the 3135 movement every five
: years. In your opinion, does the 3135
: movement really not require servicing that
: frequently? If not, how do the parts stay
: lubricated for so long?

: I have my car serviced regularly as
: preventative maintenance, and assumed the
: same principle would apply to watch
: movements. Is it best to wait until the
: movement loses accuracy to have it serviced?
: If so, could the service be more expensive
: because of worn out parts?

: Thanks for sharing your experiences!

i purchased a new rolex president in 1979 or 1980? last year it was slowing down, so i took it in for service to a local jewelry store chain that sells rolex. the watch repair guy said the service would be slowed by two weeks as rolex every year has all the authorized repair people go back east some place for two weeks of training to go over all new things in the repair and service end of their watches. my question is does omega have the same schooling? thank you.
